Proud to be a Brit

I don’t know about you but I was pretty sure within a couple of days I’d be fed up of the Olympics.

Oh how wrong I was! I’m hooked, completely and utterly hooked.

Ok, so as I’m writing this we haven’t yet added a gold to our medal tally, but take a step back and look what the organising committee and the athletes have achieved so far.

The opening ceremony was a work of genius – the Queen alongside James Bond still brings a smile to my face, the young athletes lighting the Olympic cauldron was a special touch. I’m sure we’ll be talking about it for months to come.

And the athletes – the cycling, swimming, the heartbreak for our divers and then the terrific performance from the gymnasts. We mustn’t forget the Silver medal for the eventing team today. It just keeps on getting better.

Watching the cross country highlights last night I was really struck by how amazing the capital looks.

We’re all used to seeing these wonderful sights. Imagine how London must look to those who have never visited our country?

Organisers said they would work around the landmarks the capital is famous for and really show them off.  They’ve succeed.

Seeing the cyclists being presented with their medal on the Mall with Buckingham Palace as the backdrop was a sight to behold.

Likewise,  the beach volley ball in Horse Guards Parade with Big Ben towering above and the London Eye in the distance and of course, in the cross country, Canary Wharf looked spectacular.

What terrific PR for the capital and the country.

And as for the athletes, well they’re proving that years of training and hard work do pay off and that you should never give up on your dream.

They will, no doubt, inspire children up and down the country to have a go. Now, all we need is that elusive Gold and we will have the perfect games!
